September 15 to October 15 marks National Hispanic Heritage Month. During this time, we pause to recognize the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans in the United States. Join us at The Council as we celebrate their rich heritage, culture and business successes.

Our Hispanic and Latino brothers and sisters are making valuable contributions to society every day. Hispanic and Latino business owners are a burgeoning part of our economy. In fact, according to the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Hispanic-owned businesses have grown 31.6 percent since 2012, more than double the growth rate of all businesses in the U.S. (13.8 percent). There were 4.37 million Hispanic-owned businesses in 2017. And, sales from Hispanic-owned businesses contribute $709 billion to the U.S. economy, an increase of 32 percent since 2012 and twice the total in 2007 ($351B). Additionally, between 2012 and 2017, 27.4 percent of the growth in all businesses in the U.S. was due to Hispanic-owned businesses.

The activity of our Hispanic members of The Council indeed mirrors the growth and development evidenced nationally. Over the past 45 years, we have seen the number of Hispanic-owned minority business enterprises (MBEs) grow. These businesses have contributed some $37.5 billion in sales across 360,000 businesses in the New York and New Jersey region.

We are encouraged by the success of our Hispanic membership and enriched by each company, as their leaders infuse the business community with more innovation, creativity, and drive for excellence.
