2019 MLK Day

A selfless, humble, brave, and courageous visionary, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. sacrificed his life for the betterment of others.  This month, The Council celebrates Dr. King’s birthday and recommits to working diligently on behalf of our clients – minority-owned enterprises (MBEs) and our corporate members.

Dr. King stood for something that remains essential to our nation’s political, economic and social development: A Beloved Community. According to the King Center, his Beloved Community is a global vision in which all people can share in the wealth of the earth.

The Council has a strong affinity to the values and aims of Dr. King. By building up minority businesses we impact poverty, hunger and homelessness. Our work makes it possible for MBEs to secure corporate contracts that allow businesses to grow, develop and make greater contributions to the New York and New Jersey economies. We, too, believe that racism and all forms of discrimination, bigotry and prejudice should be replaced by an all-inclusive spirit of sisterhood and brotherhood. And, in Dr. King’s Beloved Community, international disputes are resolved by peaceful conflict-resolution and reconciliation of adversaries, instead of military power.

As we celebrate what would have been Dr. King’s 90th birthday, let’s all do something productive so that when asked, “What are you doing for others?” we can answer loudly and with pride.
