Corporate Spotlight: The WNET Group

The WNET Group creates inspiring media content and meaningful experiences for diverse audiences nationwide. It is the nonprofit parent company of New York’s THIRTEEN – America’s flagship PBS station – WLIW21, THIRTEEN PBSKids, WLIW World and Create; Long Island’s only NPR station WLIW-FM; and ALL ARTS, the arts and culture media provider. The WNET Group also operates NJ PBS, New Jersey’s statewide public television network, and newsroom NJ Spotlight News. Through these channels and streaming platforms, The WNET Group brings arts, culture, education, news, documentary, entertainment and DIY programming to more than five million viewers each month. A leading public media producer for nearly 60 years, The WNET Group presents and distributes content that fosters lifelong learning, including multi-platform initiatives addressing poverty, jobs, economic opportunity, social justice, understanding and the environment.

The WNET Group’s ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, resulted in their recently launched supplier diversity program in April of 2021.  This DEI program will better align WNET’s supply base with the communities we serve.  The program is led by Procurement Director, Beth Calvo in partnership with Chief Diversity Equity and Inclusion Officer, Eugenia Harvey.

Beth Calvo joined WNET in 2016 as Procurement Director.  Since then, she has implemented an updated procurement policy and worked to streamline procurement processes. Prior to joining WNET, Beth worked in a variety of Procurement roles in the pharmaceutical industry.

Eugenia Harvey joined WNET in 2018 as Executive Producer of two multi-platform projects, Chasing the Dream and Peril and Promise. Chasing the Dream was nominated for two New York Emmys in 2019 (Getting Off the Streets) and two in 2020 (A Dream Deferred). A veteran producer, showrunner, and executive with a wide range of experience in both commercial and public media, Eugenia was called on to serve as WNET’s chief diversity, equity, and inclusion officer in the summer of 2020.

The WNET Group is excited to join The Council and have access to best practices and support in building out our program.  We look forward to networking with other member organizations.
