7th Annual Sustainability Symposium
October 3, 2017 Citi – New York
ABOUT THE EVENT
The Sustainability Symposium focuses on sustainability in the supply chain. The Symposium brings together like minded individuals from Fortune 500 companies, government and academia in order to discuss the importance of incorporating sustainability initiatives into supply chain business practices.
Sustainability is a term that is often grouped together with other words such as ‘green’, ‘eco-friendly’, and ‘natural’. The interchange of words can be confusing for suppliers who desire to work with corporations who are establishing or have established sustainability programs. Having a clear understanding of what corporations expect from its suppliers is critical to keeping a continuous supply chain. However, “once a manufacturer, supplier, or distributor accepts and overcomes the initial hurdles in adopting sustainable supply chain practices, the benefits to a company’s supply stream become immediately clear”.1
Nonetheless, sustainability programs are not ‘one size fits all’. As one article stated: “There are many different reasons why businesses take action on sustainability – for example, protecting your reputation, securing the supply of your ingredients, meeting your consumer demands”.2 Therefore, having an understanding of corporate expectations as it relates to sustainability is required.
