NY & NJ MSDC HOLDS TWO MAJOR NETWORKING EVENTS FOR ITS MEMBERS

In a busy month of networking, The New York & New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council held two annual events for its certified Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) and Corporate Members. Both of these Council-signature events allowed members to connect, develop potential business opportunities and discuss supplier diversity.

Networking for Scholarships, June 6, 2017 – Despite the rainy weather, certified MBEs and Corporate Members gathered on June 6th at the Montclair Golf Club in West Orange, N.J. for the 22nd Annual Networking for Scholarships. Co-sponsored by Corporate Chairs EY (Ernst & Young) and Bristol-Myers Squibb, along with MBE Chairs ESS and Zones, Inc., this event allowed attendees to make valuable connections with top corporate supplier diversity professionals during an enjoyable — albeit a little damp — round of golf. For non-golfers, the day was spent indoors, networking during clubhouse activities, enjoying a golf clinic, participating in networking games, and bidding on raffle prizes. The day wrapped up with a Networking and Awards Reception where winners of the raffles were announced and everyone got a taste of the extensive buffet-style dinner. Networking for Scholarships is a one-of-a-kind event that helps generate financial support to fund scholarships for qualified NY & NJ MSDC certified suppliers to attend executive education programs at top business schools.

Business Opportunity Exchange, June 27th-28th, 2017 – Only a few weeks after the Networking for Scholarships, the Business Opportunity Exchange was held in the heart of New York City on June 27th and 28th. The event was co-sponsored by MBE Chair Ampcus and Corporate Chair Time Warner Inc., who also provided the venue.

Headlining the event was the Next Level Business Catalyst workshop, which offered millennial business owners a chance to learn the ropes of business development for free from Council members. Incorporating feedback from last year’s Expo, The Council made some overall changes to the event to ensure members’ satisfaction. On top of the usual workshops, this year’s Business Opportunity Exchange provided MBEs and Corporate Members with discussion-based activities that encouraged a more personal form of conversation. The “Marketplace,” a new portion of the Exchange, allowed MBEs to choose which corporations to pitch their companies to; this balanced effectively with the MatchMaker appointments, which are chosen by corporate members. There were also panels and educational sessions focused on various business industries and current challenges in each regarding supplier diversity. Hundreds of members were present at the matchmaker sessions, panels, and educational workshops throughout the two days.

Considered New York City’s top conference on business development and corporate outsourcing to multicultural businesses, the Business Opportunity Exchange brings together hundreds of certified minority-owned business enterprises and member corporations every year to discuss future business opportunities in a cost-effective and dynamic manner.
