A MESSAGE FROM THE COUNCIL

As we enter Hispanic Heritage Month, the Council remains focused on developing programs and events that enhance the development and growth of minority business enterprises and corporate supplier diversity programs. On August 1st, more than 120 MBEs and Corporate members attended our inaugural Biz Connect event, which was held at Clyde Frazier's Wine and Dine. This event enabled our constituents to build and further business relationships. Prior to the event, four of our newer corporate members met with some of our MBEs to discuss business opportunities and develop relationships. The evening was a success! We plan to host similar events during the coming months as a way for some of our colleagues to connect with each other.

We also held our 3rd quarter Corporate Meeting at PSEG in Newark on August 3rd, where corporate members had the opportunity to learn about the strategic planning activities of the Council and discuss innovative ways to enhance their internal Supplier Diversity programs.

Looking ahead to September, we will hold our annual Healthcare Symposium on September 6th and 7th at the Hyatt Regency New Brunswick. Please join us at this two-day event and learn about the Healthcare Industry from a diverse global business perspective. Discover the changing demographics and shifting economic impact of this industry, and what it all means for your business.

We invite you to also attend the 10th annual MSDUK Conference in London, England, which will be held from September 20th to 22nd. At this event, MBEs will meet with business owners and corporations from Europe, South Africa, China and Australia and learn about expanding their services into new global markets. For further information, please go to http://msdukconference.msduk.org.uk/

Enjoy the remainder of the summer and the coming Fall.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED SPOTLIGHT

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: CQ FLUENCY

CQ fluency first became certified as a Minority Supplier with The Council in January of 2009 following a recommendation of Jackie La Joie, the Supplier Diversity Manager at Merck at the time. As a direct consequence of that relationship, Merck also sponsored Elisabete Miranda, President of CQ fluency to attend the Executive Program at Tuck School of Business.

Once certified, CQ fluency regularly attended all major Council events. The company's first significant corporate connection was at the 2010 Business Opportunity Expo where it met Sherri Shafir, Supplier Diversity Manager at Novartis. Through gradually building that relationship, CQ fluency was eventually sponsored by Novartis to the 18-month Center of Excellence (COE) program where the company was able to connect with several key Supplier Diversity Managers in its target industry. Making and developing those connections in time led to numerous new contracts and/or referrals that greatly contributed to CQ fluency's success overall.
