A MESSAGE FROM THE COUNCIL PRESIDENT

Terrance Clark
Summer is almost upon us, and The Council invites you to join us at two major networking events that will bring together our corporate members and certified MBEs. On Tuesday, June 7th we will host our annual Networking for Scholarships event at the Montclair Golf Club in Montclair, NJ. This event brings together our corporate members and MBEs for a relaxing day of golf and other activities that will facilitate the development of new business relationships, and enhance existing ones.

On the following day, June 8th, we will hold our Business Opportunity Expo at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, NJ. The day will begin with a presentation from Ms. Joset Wright Lacy, President of the National Minority Supplier Development Council during which she will provide information on supplier diversity and MBE business development.

The Expo will also feature workshops that will allow Corporate Members to discuss ways to enhance their supplier diversity programs, educate MBEs on techniques to help to grow their businesses, and also feature matchmaking sessions that will bring corporate members and MBEs together for new business opportunities. The Expo will also enable MBEs and Corporate members to develop or enhance business relationships at the various business booths for Corporate members and MBES as part of the afternoon's activities. The day will conclude with a networking reception, giving all attendees the chance to meet and mingle in a relaxing atmosphere. We urge you to make every effort to attend and look forward to seeing you on June 7th and 8th.

As always, we appreciate your continued support of The Council. Have a wonderful summer.

Terrence Clark, President & CEO

MISSON ACCOMPLISHED SPOTLIGHT

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: The College Board

The College Board is creating success as they grow their supplier diversity program. Their success story is told by Davron Ishmukhamedov Director, Procurement/Supplier Diversity at College Board.

"The College Board is a mission-driven not-for-profit organization that connects students to college success and opportunity. College Board's Supplier Diversity Program was introduced to the organization in December 2013. We joined the New York/New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council in 2014 in an effort to expand our footprint in Supplier Diversity and provide equal access to opportunities to qualified MBEs in our sourcing and bidding process. Throughout our journey of implementing a solid Supplier Diversity Program, we established a Mentor-Protégé program with Jillnell Joiner of American Red Cross and worked closely with NY/NJ MSDC where both were instrumental in mentoring, providing networking opportunities, becoming our go-to organizations for supplier diversity and most importantly connecting with certified MBEs.

In December of 2015, the Council had extended an invitation to College Board to attend the 2015 NMSDC Conference in San Diego, CA. Not only was the event information-packed, it also gave us an opportunity to build business relationships with MBEs across the country, among which, we were introduced to Strategic Business Communications, Inc. (SBC), a California-based MBE. A few months later, among others selected for a competitive RFP for ASL Interpretation Services at the College Board's National Chinese Language Conference in Chicago, we are proud to announce that SBC has been awarded its first contract through the Supplier Diversity Program. SBC delivered impeccable service at a competitive price to make sure the event was a success and it was well-recognized on many different levels within the organization. No effort is insignificant and no contract is too small. Today, SBC is on its path to earning more business with the College Board."

MBE SPOTLIGHT

Hello, my name is Lee Tracey and my company is Imagine Fashion Design, here is a brief summary of my story which is still continuing to evolve. In April of 2013 I decided to act on a lifelong vision I had of becoming an entrepreneur, that coupled with a desire and passion for both sports and fashion spawned Imagine Fashion Design LLC. With the help of a lifelong friend Garvin Guillot, we began developing a line of sports apparel focused toward the Big 4(NBA,MLB,NFL,NHL). Primarily our focus was on providing professional sports apparel for sale in retail markets, we currently have expanded to include all levels of sports and apparel for the workplace as well. In July of 2013, we became a certified MBE with the Council with the understanding that we needed to connect with like-minded people who were serious about providing access to business contracts, and more importantly connections.
