OCTOBER: A MESSAGE FROM THE COUNCIL

Terrence Clark

We hope that you are enjoying the monthly updates, highlights and news information we provide in our newsletter. Highlights of some of our recent activities follows. We held our 6th annual Healthcare Symposium, sponsored by Johnson and Johnson on September 6th and 7th at the Hyatt Regency New Brunswick.  More than 100 minority business owners and corporate members received information from procurement experts from Northwell Health, Mt. Sinai Health Systems, Westchester Medical Center, the Billion Dollar Roundtable, Pfizer, NMSDC and Johnson and Johnson on how to pursue opportunities in the healthcare sector, along with information on the importance of supplier diversity and its economic impact on the US economy.  Attendees also received key operational advice from several of our certified MBEs that have been successful in securing contracts in this important sector. http://nynjmsdc.org/2016-healthcare-symposium/

On September 15th we held our semi-annual biz-breakfast meeting at our office in Manhattan, which provided our certified MBEs with an opportunity to network with other MBEs and corporate members to develop and renew relationships that may lead to new business opportunities.
Looking ahead to the fall of 2016, we will hold our annual Sustainability Symposium on October 4th.  Sponsored by Citi at their offices on East 53rd Street in Manhattan, this half day event will focus on sustainability in the supply chain. The Symposium brings together like-minded individuals from Fortune 500 companies, government and academia to discuss the importance of incorporating sustainability initiatives into supply chain business practices. We look forward to your participation in this event.

The 2016 NMSDC Conference and Business Opportunity Exchange will be held at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois, October 23-26. The NMSDC Conference and Business Opportunity Exchange is the nation’s premier forum on minority supplier development. For four days, more than 6,000 corporate CEOs, procurement executives and supplier diversity professionals from the top multinational companies, as well as leading Asian, Black, Hispanic and Native American business owners and international organizations will convene to re-energize their collective efforts to Certify > Develop > Connect > and Advocate for solid minority firms’ participation in the global corporate supply chain. Please visit www.nmsdcconference.com for further information. We look forward to seeing you in Chicago for this important event.
Each year, the New York and New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council’s Partnership Awards Gala recognizes and honors the achievements of stellar minority-owned firms and corporate members who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in creating rewarding business relationships. The effects of these relationships are felt nationwide from the creation of new jobs, to the delivery of those services and goods that are strengthening our economy every day.

Join us on Thursday, November 3 at Cipriani 42nd Street as we celebrate this success!  A special thanks to MetLife for serving as our corporate chair and to MBE Capital Partners and SHI International for serving as our MBE co-chairs.

We appreciate your continued support of the Council.
