“The Business Case for Global Supplier Diversity” expects to provoke ideas and discussion, provide direction and stimulate best practices.
According to the US Census, by the year 2050 ethnic minorities will make up over a third of the US population. Some regions of the country are already “majority/minority” in makeup. With that comes a greater need for healthcare systems and providers that can reflect and respond to an increasingly diverse patient base. Knowing how to serve people with different values, health beliefs and alternative perspectives about health and wellness is a business imperative.
According to Intercontinental Marketing Services (IMS), an organization that monitors the pharmaceutical industry, the global pharmaceutical market was predicted to grow 5-7% in 2011 to $880 billion, largely because of pharmaceutical companies based in emerging markets.
Having suppliers who can develop products and innovative solutions to meet the unique needs of diverse patients will create a competitive advantage. It opens the door to greater cultural competence.
“World-class procurement organizations commit close to 30% more, or more than 13% of total spend, to diverse suppliers, versus 10% percent for typical companies.” (The Hackett Group Supplier Diversity Report, 20082)
The NYNJ MSDC and Johnson & Johnson collaborate to present the Healthcare Symposium reflecting on the overall theme:
This two-day event is dedicated to understanding the healthcare industry from a diverse global business perspective.
